Returns
Customer satisfaction is most important to us. If you receive an item that you for some reason are not entirely satisfied, please contact us and we will discuss how we may resolve this .
We are a very small business and whilst road tested many designs, there are just too many unique finds in our stockroom. As a desire for absolute customer confidence, we will offer a free one year repair on any items that have been reworked.
Storage
Historically Kimono and haori were usually stored by carefully folding and laying flat in a draw. However the ones we have are decades old and many have been stored with mothballs to protect them. We therefore suggest that upon receipt you air it in the garden/sun/over a radiator. After use, hang where air can circulate. Another spectacular example is to have it displayed on a wall by threading a piece of dowel through the sleeves, attaching a cord to the rod in the centre, and hanging on a hook. Be careful to hang out of direct sunlight to svoid fading.
Cleaning
All our silk vintage and antique clothing items are specialist clean only.
Cotton yukata may be hand washed in cold water, however please be aware that traditional Japanese dyes are often not color-fast and care should be taken in case colors run.
Age
The age of the item is given according to the Japanese classification.
Pre-1950s is described as "antique", 1950s onwards is described as "vintage".
Marks
On vintage and antique items these may be yellow starch spots from storage or occasionally larger water-marks on silk fabrics. Sometimes there can be tiny brown spots, or some grime around the hem where a kimono has dragged on the floor. We endeavour to inform you of such things per item
Storage stitches
Some kimono and haori have large white basting stitches along their edges.
These are put in after cleaning when the item is being stored to keep the fabric flat and should be removed before wearing.
Size
Traditional Japanese clothing does not have sizing information. Dimensions are given in the item description. Please be aware that the traditional kimono shape has dropped shoulders and the fit may be a little smaller than corresponding measurements in a Western garment. Modified and remodeled garments will fit in the Western way.
